Our Standard

Code of Conduct

Every gym in our partner network commits to upholding this Code of Conduct across their full community: athletes, coaches, staff, parents, and visitors.

  1. Welcome the beginner.

Everyone here had a first class. The first class is the hardest. Make the next person's easier.

  2. Your ego is your opponent.

Hard training tests your limits. It isn't a license to impose them on someone else.

  3. Your first goal is to train tomorrow. Your second goal is for your partner to.

We take care of each other on this mat.

  4. Teach freely.

If you've already learned something someone else is still figuring out, share it. Knowledge passed forward doesn't diminish you — it builds this community.

  5. Show up.

Progress lives in repetition. Honor the commitment you made — to yourself and to the people training alongside you.

  6. Belonging is built, not given.

No one walks in feeling at home automatically. We make it happen through small acts of welcome, repeated consistently, over time.

  7. Hard training, generous community.

We don't lower the standard. We raise each other toward it.

  8. These mats are for everyone who's been told otherwise.

Martial arts has not always welcomed women, queer people, and people of color the way it should. We're not pretending that history didn't happen. This gym is a bridge — for many people, the first step into something that will change their life. If you're wondering whether that includes you: it does. If you've been here a while, keeping that bridge open is part of your job.
